Rock River receivers are rolling

In the 7-on-7 indoor football game, a potent and versatile receiving corps is one of the keys to success.
At least during their season-high five-game winning streak, the Rock River Raptors’ wideouts are helping the team find that success.
“We’ve kept those guys healthy,” head coach Dave Jones said, “and now they’re paying off for us.”
As quarterback Steve LaFalce has gotten into a rhythm, the receiving corps has picked it up as well.
The entire team hopes to stay hot as it heads to Kalamazoo, Mich. for the conference finals at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Right now, the Raptors’ wide receivers seem to have all the angles covered.
They have a couple of speedsters in Willie Tolon and the newest member of the team, JoJo Moore.
They also have the veteran possession receiver who’s never afraid to go across the middle in Luke McArdle. And then they have the tall, lanky guy who can go up and get the jump ball, and who is very hard to defend in any situation, in Brandon Tobias.
Teamed up with a rejuvenated LaFalce at QB, they’ve helped the Raptors’ offense grow into one of the league’s most dangerous in a matter of months.

“They started out as boys, but this group has matured into men,” said offensive coordinator LeRoy McFadden, a former Michigan State and NFL wide receiver.
“They’ve learned to manipulate defenses. Steve has complete trust in all of them now, and so do I.”
The Raptors’ offense — like the team itself — has been on a roller-coaster season, slumping early then pouring it on down the stretch.
LaFalce, who was benched for games 3 and 4 this season, has been efficient with both his arm and his legs the past two months, and the receivers have become comfortable with him, and with their roles on the team.
“It was not just Steve; we were all starting out pretty fresh, and we were all trying to get into the flow early on,” the 6-foot-5 Tobias said. “Steve knows the receivers all pretty well now, and we know him and his tendencies now. It’s like we’re a whole different group than we were a couple of months ago.”

McArdle joined the team in Week 6, while Moore burst onto the scene as a part-time receiver and full-time return man in Week 8.
Since then, the whole group has jelled. Tolon, a former East standout, leads the corps in catches (43), yards (577) and touchdowns (10).
Tobias is second in each category with 33 catches for 429 yards with seven TDs. McArdle has been an important red-zone target, grabbing 16 receptions for 170 yards with five TDs in just five games.
Moore has seven catches for 58 yards with a score, but he’s also hit pay dirt three times as a return man.
As a group, the wideouts are averaging nearly 100 yards and just under three TD catches per game during the team’s winning streak.
“If we play at our level — at the level we’ve been playing at lately — no matter who we play, we can beat them,” Tobias said. “We’ve got a ton of confidence right now.”
